This is a grey rat snake which is commonly found around DC. It eats rat, mice, squirrels, voles, birds, bird eggs, lizards, and frogs. it lives in fields and under piles of sticks. I found it in my forest basking in the sun. It is harmless so please do not get scared, or harm it because it is very important to the ecosystem. It keeps the population of small animals at a good level and is a source of food to hawks and eagles.
